In our last blog we made new year’s resolutions that will help our dogs live happier and healthier lives. Andrei Bratu, expert dog behavior/heath/food consultant and founder of Dog Food Camp provided us his expert tips to treat anxiety in dogs. 

The first type of dog anxiety is separation anxiety which arises from a dog being left alone for long time intervals. This results in excessive vocalizations, restlessness, inappropriate urinate and/or escape attempts. The best treatment for separation anxiety is social interaction with other animals and people, exercise and rest. The second type of dog anxiety is fear aggressiveness. It’s an expression of anxiety towards certain stimuli and is caused by insufficient socialization during 3-12 week age, inconvenience, punishment, or traumatic events. The best way to treat fear aggressiveness in dogs is desensitization and counterconditioning. This means reinforcing obedience with basic education exercises to ensure obedience. Then, progressively exposing the dog to the stimuli that causes fear aggression from a distance.
